Saying No to PageRank - An Aside

Posted in July 23rd, 2007
Published in Blog News, Random Posts

So this post has nothing to do with programming, or coding, PHP, mySQL, databases, or any of that other sweet stuff that I’ve been talking about. BUT, it is relevant, because it addresses an issue that you as a potential future or current webmaster will face, or already faces… the mad dash for page rank.

While wandering around the web today visiting different posts and blogs I ran across a post about saying no to page rank. The author, Dean Hunt, writes:

This is a war cry to all webmasters who have better things to do than to be listening to endless threads, blog posts and nonsense about the upcoming Google Pagerank Update.

As a first hand witness to this, being as I frequent many webmaster forums, I could totally relate to what he was saying. The basic idea behind the campaign is explained well in his response to comments over at phpied.com, where he writes:

I should point out that the purpose of this meme is not really to say that we are against Pagerank, more that we are against spending all day everyday chatting and worrying about it.

So whilst many webmasters will panic, worry, discuss, predict… we will get on with creating quality content and sharing links to improve our PR rank.

I happen to agree, so I have jumped in, and will be updating this list as it grows. If you are interested in the details of this campaign, read more here.

akshay,

That’s pretty interesting. I try not to pay too much attention to PR and instead concentrate on creating content, but it’s hard to ignore altogether. Keep us updated!
